San Clemente Exchange Club Celebrates 60 Years of Service and Community Impact

ECSC 60 YEARS of SERVICE

This summer, the Exchange Club of San Clemente proudly marked a major milestone — 60 years of continuous service to the local community. Since its chartering in 1965, the club has been a steadfast force for good, championing causes that strengthen families, support youth, and promote Americanism.

The club’s anniversary was recently featured in the San Clemente Times, highlighting its rich history and ongoing commitment to making a difference. From its early days supporting local schools and civic projects to its modern-day initiatives addressing child abuse prevention and mental health awareness, the San Clemente Exchange Club has remained deeply rooted in service.

At the heart of this celebration is Don Echelberger, the club’s newly installed 2025–2026 President. Don brings a remarkable legacy of leadership and dedication, having been a member for 54 years — making him the longest-serving active member among the club’s 32 participants. A U.S. Air Force veteran and retired TWA Captain, Don’s life has been defined by service, both in the skies and on the ground in San Clemente.

In true Exchange spirit, Don kicked off his presidency with a bold and lighthearted gesture: introducing his custom MEGA hat — “Make Exchange Great Again.” It’s a playful nod to national slogans, but with a serious mission behind it: revitalizing membership and community engagement. And he’s already making strides — having recruited five new members in 2025 alone, with a personal goal of reaching ten by next June.

The club’s 60th anniversary is more than a celebration of longevity — it’s a testament to the enduring values of service, patriotism, and community. Whether organizing local events, supporting veterans, or partnering with nonprofits to address domestic violence and mental health, the San Clemente Exchange Club continues to be a vital part of the city’s civic fabric.

As the club looks ahead to its next chapter, it invites residents to get involved, attend meetings, and learn more about how Exchange is making a difference — one project, one member, and one act of service at a time.

To learn more or attend an upcoming meeting, visit the club’s page or join us on September 18th, where you’ll have a chance to meet Don and hear firsthand about the club’s exciting plans for the year ahead.
